Hospice of the Chesapeake Volunteer Spotlight: Pat Taylor is moved by children in hospice

Pat Taylor said he always had it in the back of his mind that hospice care was for older people. Owner and president of All Green Management, he knew of Hospice of the Chesapeake as a nonprofit and made donations to support our work. But when Director of Advancement and Volunteer Services Chris Wilson reached out to him to see if he could fund the purchase of cribs for children in hospice, it drastically changed the way he viewed our services.

“That broke my heart. I never equated kids with hospice. I think a lot of people are probably the same as me,” Taylor said. From that point on, he was literally “all in.” He joined one of our most active philanthropic committees, the Golf Committee, about five years ago. He has stepped up each year, giving more of his time and finances each year. This year, AGM was the tournament’s Masters Level sponsor. The tournament once again broke its fundraising record, bring in a inspiring $200,000.

Wilson said she noticed Taylor’s passion for the mission evolve after seeing the need for pediatric hospice beds. His involvement in the tournament is a perfect fit. “Pat exemplifies the rest of the Golf Committee. He gets it done,” she said. “He is genuine, kind and supportive. He doesn’t hesitate to come to me and ask, ‘What do you need from me?’”

A father of two grown children and a longtime Anne Arundel County resident, Taylor said that serving on the committee is a great experience that has really opened his eyes to a lot of different things. “The key to giving back to your community is to act on it when something really moves you,” he said. “I don’t know if I would have stayed as involved it wasn’t for the cribs. I have always been a little tougher in life, but that really tugged at my heart.”
